The Southwest: most popular for property investments

The coastline is relatively short, punctuated by rocky coves, beaches and harbours, lapped by turquoise waters. This side of the island is famous for its brilliant sunsets, just one of the many pleasures of owning property here.

Nestled inland, at the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains, the town of Andratx and the village of S’Arraco are authentically Mallorcan and surrounded by a gorgeous rural landscape. Renovation properties are limited, with investors having long ago realised the potential of the area, but they can be found.

The beautiful white sandy beach at the resort of Santa Ponsa is a draw for many day trippers from Palma, which is just 20km away. Mallorca property buyers who are looking to invest in apartments to rent to holidaymakers should note that demand is high here, as in most of the South West.

Inside Mallorca Southwest

With the sea on one side and the Tramuntana mountains on the other, the interior of the South West presents some wonderful living locations. The residential areas of Bendidat and Costa D‘en Blanes, 9km and 7km west of Palma respectively, enjoy a national park environment to the north and are just minutes drive away from chic Puerto Portals and many picturesque beaches. Conversely, both areas are exclusive and in high demand. Indeed, Costa D’en Blanes, which overlooks the village of Portals Nous and the Portals marina, is likened to the Beverley Hills of Mallorca.

The South West boasts several excellent golf courses, Bendidat itself being home to the Royal Bendidat Golf Course, whose honorary president is King Juan Carlos.

The property market

When buying a property in the southwest of Mallorca, tranquillity can also be found in the town of Calvia, a charming, traditional town set away from the hustle and bustle of busy resorts, with plenty of amenities and its own lovely beaches.

Not without reason is the South West eternally popular with foreign property investors. If your requirements include a year-round community, natural beauty, sandy beaches and outdoor activities married with superb infrastructure and a dose of glamour just a short hop from Palma and the airport, then this area may be top of your list.
