Why is Santa Maria a hot spot for property hunters

One of the larger country towns in Mallorca, Santa Maria is just to the north west of Palma. Once a stopping place for travelers heading for the north or east parts of Mallorca, Santa Maria is now a lively traditional market town which functions both as a centre for local agriculture and commerce as well as being a dormitory town for Palma de Mallorca. Conditions are good here for growing vines so the wine industry is prevalent here as well as in the neighbouring town of Binissalem.

Where is Santa Maria located?

Being located close to the Ma-13 road from Palma to the north, and being so close to Palma de Mallorca, Santa Maria is a popular place amongst people living in Palma and for foreigners to own a second property. There is a mixture here of locals, British and other nationalities. Properties consist mostly of old traditional townhouses in the town itself, many of which have been converted to apartments, and traditional country houses and farms / finca properties in the surrounding countryside.
