The Mallorcan coastal resort of Paguera has an easy-going vibe which makes it increasingly popular with families and older visitors, particularly those looking to buy a holiday property on the island. Paguera is situated on the strip of Mallorca’s south west coast in the municipality of Calvia, an area that also includes the resorts of Santa Ponsa, Puerto Andratx, Costa de la Calma and Camp de Mar.

Peguera – the family-friendly resort
The resort tends not to be as well known amongst British holidaymakers as some of the other tourist meccas in the region, and there are recent historical explanations for this.
In the past the resort has been predominantly marketed towards German holidaymakers. However, this trend is beginning to change (internet bookings have facilitated this) and Paguera is becoming more and more a desirable destination internationally due to the town’s substantial attractions. It’s also a highly desirable area in which to look for a property in Mallorca.
Lovely beaches
Noted in particular for its cleanliness, Paguera boasts three safe and sandy beaches. Playa de Tora, Playa Palmira (the main beach) and Playa de la Romana. All the resort’s beaches are child-friendly, provide excellent facilities and are maintained in an attractive and pristine condition. Water sports are naturally popular around these parts and sun loungers and parasols can also be hired.
You’ll also find an interesting selection of boat trips to be enjoyed, particularly cruises to the uninhabited nature reserve island of Sa Dragonera.
Incidentally, Paguera is one of the few areas on the island where you’ll find enough ‘waves’ to make surfing a popular choice. OK, it’s hardly Hawaii, but pretty unusual for the usually tranquil waters of Mallorca!
Most of Paguera’s energy tends to concentrate around Avenida Paguera (Paguera Boulevard), the lengthy, busy (and partly pedestrianised) main street that runs parallel to Palmira beach.
Here you’ll find a fabulous selection of bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and boutiques. Good value German cuisine tends to be very much in demand, so if you like the odd Bratwurst…
And don’t forget that great German tradition – the beer festival! Paguera’s lively drinking festivals attract visitors from all over the island.
Superb Shopping
The central main drag in Paguera, the Avenida Paguera, is the town’s main shopping area. Here you’ll find absolutely everything you could want – whether you are on holiday or own a holiday home here. (It may be worth noting here that Avenida Paguera is not directly on the resort’s front line, but parallel to it.)
Beach wear obviously is in full supply, but you’ll also find souvenir shops, boutiques, leather goods (Paguera has a reputation as a good place to buy shoes), as well as several chemists and supermarkets. Shopkeepers seem to aim their prices at the mid-market shopper, so you’ll find shopping is affordable.
Around Paguera
One of the best features of Paguera is that it affords easy access to some of the most stunning areas of south west Mallorca.
Beautiful Puerto Andratx is an obvious choice for a visit. Just a short distance away by bus or taxi, this pretty fishing resort is often described as one of the most beautiful harbours in the whole of the Mediterranean. As well as being a popular location to own a holiday home, the port is home to some splendid designer-label shopping experiences.
Don’t forget adjacent Cala Fornells. Quieter and more petite than Paguera, pretty little houses perch on a hilltop overlooking the sea, dropping down to a wooded cove with a tiny beach.
Look out for the rather splendid Hotel Cala Fornells, situated on a high vantage point overlooking the sea. It has all the luxurious facilities you would expect.
Nearby Camp de Mar is an upmarket residential town and a popular choice for people looking to buy property in Mallorca. Located on a hilly cove, there is a large beach and it is a great place to enjoy a swim. And don’t forget the rather eccentric cafe perched out in the bay and accessed by a wooden walkway!
Camp de Mar is also home to the internationally famous 18-hole golf course, Golf de Andratx.
Hikers and bikers
Whether it’s on two feet or two wheels, the stunning countryside surrounding Paguera is not to be missed. Providing good access to the mountain trails of the beautiful Tramuntana mountain range, the area is admired by both hikers and cyclists. In particular, seek out the lovely mountain village of Es Capdella.
How to get to Paguera
Paguera is really easy to reach from Palma International Airport and is connected by motorway and main road all the way. The travelling time is about 40 minutes.
